Traveled via Heathrow; news of the Gulf War as she is set to travel to the Middle East; increased security to Tel Aviv; empty seats on her plane- a sense that no one wants to travel unless they have to; In Jerusalem- stayed at St. George's Hostel; speaks of a personal spiritual revival; tour of the Holy Land; talks about the people she meets while staying at the hostle and the church services; discussion on the Israeli practice of the commandeering of Palenstinian homes for Jewish settlers; found out her work in the area had been in the local paper; Mount of Olives; could hear gunfire during her class; in Gaza Garvie was driven in an United Nations car; described the sights, smells and sounds of Gaza; the difference between Gaza and Jerusalem; gunfire and curfews; names the schools and camps she visits; sights of war; invited for meals with new friends; strict security leaving Israel.
